Welcome To St Mary's

For almost a thousand years St Marys Church has played its part at the centre of the village of Bampton in Oxfordshire, and today it continues to be a vibrant influence within our local community as well as a beautiful centrepiece to the village.

The future of the Church and its community depends on local support and hard work from a committed group of volunteers who ensure that St Marys remains a special place at the heart of our community.

About Visiting St Mary's Bampton

St Mary's Church is pleased to welcome visitors throughout the year, either to services, just to have a look round, or to use the church as a place of peace and reflection. The church is normally open during daylight hours all year round.

We have recently seen an increase in visitors due to the filming of the ITV drama series Downton Abbey which was filmed in and around the church. Watch extra footage about the Downton weddings filmed in St Marys by clicking here. Filming has also recently taken place in preparation for the forthcoming feature film, so more visitors can be expected in the coming months and years.

The roads around St Mary's are narrow and access is difficult for large vehicles. There is limited parking on Church Close on the north side of the churchyard, but all coaches should drop off/pick up in the Market Square and can park easily at the Recreation Ground on Buckland Road (OX18 2AA). Further details about how to get to Bampton can be found on the Bampton Parish Council Website.

For large groups refreshments can sometimes be made available by prior arrangement.

Please click here to send an email to the Churchwardens
for further details about visiting.
